MD, Doctor of Medicine, is the founding psychiatrist of Carolina Partners in Mental HealthCare, PLLC. Her goal is to offer easy access to quality, affordable mental health care for people with insurance coverage. Dr. Monroe received her B.S. is biology with highest honors and was Phi Beta Kappa at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her M.D. degree, then completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill in 1990. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Monroe is a Diplomate in Psychiatry. Elected as a Trustee at Large, she serves the Executive Council of the North Carolina Psychiatric Association (NCPA). Dr. Monroe chairs the Practice Management Committee and represents the NCPA on the Joint Insurance Committee. In addition she is a physician member of a BCBS Quality Improvement Committee as well as of the State Employee Health Plan's Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee. Through these committees Dr. Monroe works to reduce the barriers North Carolinians face when trying to obtain mental health care. Located in the main Durham, NC office, Dr. Monroe practices outpatient psychiatry evaluating people of all ages. She has a collaborative approach to treatment that begins with psychoeducation regarding the differential diagnoses and treatment modalities, which include non-pharmocological options.
