J. Louise Newton MSW, LCSW, Masters of Social Work, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has been with Carolina Partners since early 2013. She
earned her BA in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at
Asheville and her Masters of Social Work from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Newton has previously worked as a Residential Therapist at Sunrise at Horizons through the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and currently works as a Community Outreach Director for Girls Rock North Carolina. Ms. Newton has
also worked for 10 years providing individual and group treatment
services to incarcerated and court-ordered clients, with trauma
survivors in the university setting, and in men's and women's
gender-responsive treatment settings addressing the intersection of mental health, addiction, and trauma. Ms. Newton has
extensive training in motivational interviewing interventions that can
be used to treat addictions, address ambivalence around pharmacotherapy,
or provide support and assistance during life-changing processes. She
has been an educator and advocate of access to treatment for LGBTQI
communities and has served as a field instructor for the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work. More
recently, Ms. Newton has begun the training and certification process
to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in the treatment of
complex, developmental, or single incident traumas and resulting mental
health symptoms. She treats ages 16 and up at our New Hope Court office in Durham, NC, where she specializes in individual and group therapy for substance abuse, PTSD/trauma recovery, anger management, and LGBTQI populations including transgender patients as well as general adult mental health treatment.
