Allison Grubbs
MSW, LCSW, LCAS, Master of Social Work, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, License Clinical Addictions Specialist
Throughout my career, I have specialized in solution-focused work, mindfulness and stress-reduction, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Social Work and have experience working with adults and adolescents recovering from addiction issues. Along with being a licensed clinical social worker, I am also a licensed clinical addictions specialist. With an undergraduate degree in fine arts, as well as years of experience as a high school visual arts teacher, I incorporate expressive arts with my work with clients, and believe in the power of the art-making process to bring about healing and enhance our awareness of feelings and patterns of behavior.
Stress is a large factor in many life challenges; from past traumas to job and relationship issues. Stress can also manifest physically, causing chronic pain or exasperating already existing medical concerns. A feeling of being stuck can also develop over time of repeating the same patterns. Through developing a practice of mindfulness and relaxation, we can calm our mind and bodies. Developing these skills, as well as getting to the heart of the matter can bring lasting positive changes.
I believe that the relationship between the client and therapist is one of the most important parts of the healing process, and must be built on trust and respect. I believe in providing a safe and non-judgmental environment in order to encourage your own personal empowerment and growth.
I specialize in individual therapy for teens, young adults and adults, substance abuse treatment, mindfulness and expressive arts therapy at our Wellness Center in Raleigh, NC.
